# Requirements to become a Zulma Pro in Niagara

> What you need before you apply: eligibility, identity verification, background check, insurance, and equipment, plus the Niagara service area explained.

Zulma is selective so that customers know they can trust every Pro who walks through their door. The requirements below apply to all applicants. Cleaning experience is a plus but is not required, read on for more detail.

## Checklist

Before you apply, confirm you meet all of the following:

* **18 years or older**
* **Legal right to work in Canada**
* **Reliable transportation** to job sites across the Niagara region
* **A smartphone** that can run the Zulma Pro app
* **Pass identity verification** so we can confirm you are who you say you are
* **Pass a third-party criminal record check** (this is part of getting approved)
* **Carry your own \$2M liability insurance** before your first job
* **Provide a vulnerable sector police check** before your first in-home job
* **Complete WHMIS 2015 training** before your first chemical-handling job (cleaning and detailing)
* **Bring your own equipment and supplies** for the services you offer
* **Comfortable working independently** in customers' homes and properties

<Note>
  Cleaning experience is preferred but not required. Many of Zulma's top earners started without any prior professional cleaning background. What matters most is reliability, care, and respect in someone's home.
</Note>

## Identity and background

Every Pro is identity-verified and background-checked before taking jobs. There are two steps:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Identity verification">
    You confirm your identity during onboarding so we know exactly who is showing up at a customer's door.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Criminal record check">
    A third-party criminal record check is run before you accept any work. This is the same standard every Pro on the platform meets.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Customers see that Pros are vetted, which is a big part of why they book with confidence. You can read how this works on the customer side at [How we vet Pros](/trust/vetting).

## Before your first job

A few things are required before your first job, not to get approved: your own insurance, a vulnerable sector police check, and (if you handle cleaning chemicals) WHMIS 2015 training.

You carry your own **\$2,000,000 commercial general liability (CGL)** insurance covering the work you perform. It is the front-line coverage for your jobs and a normal cost of running an independent business. You provide it before you accept your first paid job, and you keep it current. Short-term-rental turnover work (Zulma for Hosts in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake) uses the same \$2M CGL, not a higher bar.

Because you work in people's homes, you also provide a vulnerable sector police check from your local police service before your first in-home job, renewed every 12 months.

If your work involves cleaning chemicals (cleaning and car detailing), you also provide WHMIS 2015 certification. Lawn care does not require it.

Zulma carries its own coverage on top of yours: **\$5M commercial general liability** at the platform level, through Zensurance. That is platform-level protection, and it does not replace your own policy.

## Equipment and supplies

Zulma Pros are independent and bring their own equipment and supplies for the services they offer, whether that is cleaning, lawn care, or car detailing. Detailing is mobile, so you travel to the customer with everything you need.

If a customer asks for green or unscented products on a cleaning job, that preference is flagged ahead of time so you can come prepared.
